Pregnancy after RNY

I have a friend who had RNY in 2004.  She is now pregnant for the first time.  She is having trouble with the Glucose tolerance test.  The doctors says the RNY shouldn't matter.  She says she feels like she "dumped" when she drank the stuff.

Her fasting sugar was fine.  She drank the stuff and her first blood test sugar was high, the second was fine and the third crashed to 62.

Anyone else have some experience she can lean on?

Her doctor obviously doesn't know what s/he is talking about. Some people can take the standard test and be fine, while others dump. She has EVERY right to refuse to take the test - there are several alternatives.

I took a fasting blood test. I didn't eat after midnight and went in at 8am - got *****ed by a needle and got my results 3 days later.

But again there are several alternatives and she has the right to refuse the regular test.

She said she felt like she dumped... but the OB/GYN says it doesn't matter. They would still treat her like she had GD.  There is zero research on it from what we can find.  It stinks.  I am glad I had my babies before... (Unless we slip after)

YAH i agree that Dr doesn't know what WLS is. I would die if I drank it. Ever since becoming pregnant I CAN'T eat sugar AT ALL!!! I would dump bad! There are other tests they can do . I would tell her to tell her Dr to do some research with a WLS Dr. I feel sooo bad for her I HATE DUMPING!!!

I will tell her.  She has called her surgeon but hasn't heard back.  Thanks.

Her Dr. is an ignoramus.

I did a 2 hour postprandial instead of drinking that crap.

Is that when they test your blood fasting and then two hours after you eat? they offered for her to do that next.  She has already had the one and three hour tests...

If her Dr is going to treat her like she has GD based on a test that isn't accurate for RNY patients, I would fine a new Dr ASAP.  I was offerred several different options.  I have learned to take an active role in my health care- and no1 is going to make me or guilt me into anything.
